ROAD TO AFRICAN WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE #AWLCTanzania2023

AFRICA WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE TANZANIA 2023

15th-17th of September 2022, Durban

Just A Few Words

About The Event

African women’s representation in leadership is poor and rooted in gender norms. Therefore, the
role of gender equality advocacy and women’s capacity-building is key to closing the female
leadership gap.
African Women in Leadership conference is a unifying force – that brings together stakeholders for
action towards equal representation in leadership. We believe everyone has a role to play. To
facilitate this, AWLC gathers influential persons – to be involved in the process of consultations
because for women to be heard, they must be heard in places of influence. On the other hand,
AWLC provides capacity-building – enabling women to step into the leadership shoes through
access to networks of influence, business growth opportunities, and leadership development.
African Women in Leadership Conference (AWLC) is an annual convention for strategies and
capacity building to advance women’s leadership. It engages key decision-makers to generate and
implement solutions, and build partnerships for women’s development. Since AWLO believes that
effective strategies originate from women, it engages them as its primary stakeholders to
increase their leadership participation.
The AWLC first edition was hosted by Accra Ghana in 2009, Abuja Nigeria in 2010, Accra Ghana in
2011, Banjul Gambia in 2012, Uyo Nigeria in 2013, Atlanta USA in 2014, South Africa in 2015,
Sugarland Texas in 2016, Washington DC in 2017, Abuja Nigeria 10th Anniversary in 2018 and
Atlanta Georgia 10th anniversary Diaspora edition 2018. AWLC 2019 was held in Rwanda and
Canada, and AWLC 2021 was held in the USA.
